The term “slot” is a late 14c. word that originally referred to a hollow in the throat over the breastbone. It is derived from Old French esclot, which has uncertain origins. It is also related to Old Norse slod, which means “hole.” The word first appeared in print in the 1520s, and the term “slot machine” dates back to 1888. It has various meanings, including:
Airport slots give an airline the right to operate at a particular airport. They are often used when parking space and runway throughput is constrained. They are traded and can be quite valuable – one airport slot was sold for $75 million in 2016! Flow and capacity management is another use for slots, which are issued by organizations such as EUROCONTROL. They are an effective tool in managing air traffic at busy airports. They prevent repeated delays from multiple flights.
The term slot can refer to two different areas in a rink. The low slot is the area directly in front of the goaltender and between the faceoff circles. The high slot, on the other hand, is the area in the middle of the ice above the faceoff circles. In either case, the offensive player has a clear view of the net and can take wrist shots. If the slot is too high, defenders will establish it as no-man’s land.
The number of slots that can be used in an utterance must be mapped to the various entities. To do this, the user should click the Utterances tab and double-click a particular word or phrase. Then, he can choose the name of the slot. The colored underline indicates the slot value. After the mapping process is complete, the user can modify the slot’s information and delete it. The user can also modify or delete an individual slot by selecting it from the Slots tab.
